Let's make the world a safer place for our children ...
Dear Friends:
Our two year old daughter, Veronica, was killed on March 27, 2005 when a vehicle that was backing out of a driveway struck her as she walked on the sidewalk. The vehicle that hit Veronica did not have any rear visibility technology such as back-up proximity sensors or a rear camera. Back up sensors emit an audible warning when a vehicle is in reverse near fixed or moving objects that the driver fails to see. Rear cameras are mounted to the rear of the vehicle and provide the driver with a view of what is behind the car.
We are not alone in suffering the loss of a child from this type of a motor vehicle accident: Over 150 children are killed each year when motor vehicle operators either don’t see or can’t see what is behind them. Automobile manufacturers need to install technology on all vehicles that will warn drivers that something is behind their vehicle before backing up. Congress needs to act now on this urgent issue by passing legislation to require rear visibility technology on all vehicles. Please contact your government officials and urge their support on this issue.
As a result of this tragedy, we have formed Veronica’s Memorial Fund. Our first task is to educate people about this grave danger. Please help by sending your donation to:
